Sporting KC’s Decision Day match against LAFC to double as Fan Appreciation Match

Kansas City, Kan. - October 22, 2018 - This Sunday’s Fan Appreciation Match, set for 3:30 p.m. CT at Children’s Mercy Park, will also serve as a high-stakes showdown between Sporting Kansas City and LAFC to determine which club finishes first in the Western Conference heading into the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Sporting Kansas City currently occupies first place in the West but could finish anywhere between first and fourth place by the end of Sunday’s Decision Day. Tickets for the all-important clash are still available via SeatGeek.com as Sporting KC battles for a No. 1 playoff seed in one of 11 MLS matches kicking off simultaneously on Decision Day. Support the Chiefs in the Budweiser Brew House: The Budweiser Brew House will open to all ticket holders at 11:30 a.m. CT on Sunday, giving fans a chance to watch the Chiefs-Broncos game and spend their entire afternoon at Children’s Mercy Park.

To promote the Fan Appreciation Match, Sporting KC will post a series of videos to the club’s social media accounts and YouTube channel. Each video will promote the match differently.

Favorite Posters: The first video will show how the players care about their fans and appreciate their support. The video is a Q&A where Sporting KC players are asked their all-time favorite player-made poster.

Fan Appreciation Match Promo:

The second video is a 30-second promotional video that will be broadcasted and posted to the club’s social media sites and YouTube channel. The commercial begins by panning the fan sections at the stadium celebrating a goal. Then, the words “Fan Appreciation Match” appear in a large SKC font. In the background, the SKC Cauldron Anthem Chant plays. The next shot is a video clip of a goal and a player/fan celebration. The camera pans from the goal being scored to the confetti blasting out of the cannons and the fans celebrating. Sporting KC overcomes LAFC to become the ‘Best in the West’

Kansas City, Kan. - October 29, 2018 - Sporting KC took first place in the Western Conference and a No. 1 seed in the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs with an exiting 2-1 win over LAFC at Children’s Mercy Park yesterday.

The thrilling game took place simultaneously with 11 other MLS games in what is called MLS Decision Day. The high-stake Decision Day match doubled as a Fan Appreciation Match where the club treated fans to thousands of prizes like 2019 season tickets, The Decision Day game doubled as a Fan Appreciation Match where the club treated fans to thousands of prizes, free food, giveaways, and SportingStyle discounts.

The Decision Day game was full of excitement up until very the last minute. Sporting KC was up 1-0 at halftime on a spectacular left-footed goal by Roger Espinoza. In the 63rd minute, Seth Sinovic received a red card for a handball in the box, resulting in Sporting KC playing down a man and a penalty kick for LAFC. Carlos Vela’s penalty kick goal made the score 1-1, but Sporting KC was quick to act and took advantage of an excellent opportunity to retake the lead in the 72nd minute with a goal by Daniel Salloi. Sinovic’s ejection from the game and the penalty kick goal could have been a pivotal point in the match, however, Sporting KC was able to overcome thanks to fan support and two fantastic goals.

As the No. 1 seed, Sporting KC receives a Knockout Round bye. Sporting KC’s first game in the two-legged Western Conference semifinals will be away on Sunday, Nov. 4, before hosting the second leg at Children’s Mercy Park on Sunday, Nov. 11. Kickoff times and broadcast details are to be announced.

Tickets for Sporting KC’s first home playoff game on Sunday, Nov. 11 are available via SeatGeek.com. Season Ticket Members have a first right to their seats for all playoff matches, excluding the MLS Cup final.
